It’s that time of the year again, off to Las Vegas for me, Greg Shenkman. The 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is fast approaching. For four days I will be seeing exhibits, listening to speakers and attending parties all to see whats new and updated on the electronics market. This is a huge function that takes place at the exhibit hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. There are over 300 new exhibitors on the slate for this year, so it promises to be bigger than last year. For more info on this go to: http://www.cesweb.org
Shoppers are spending later into the season than ever this year. Spending over the weekend, the last before Christmas, jumped 13 percent from the year before to $767 million. That is partly because many online retailers are offering later free or discounted shipping in time for Christmas. In the week ending Dec. 20, 45 percent of sites offered free shipping, versus 38 percent last year, comScore said. Retailers might not be losing money on all this free shipping, because it seems to encourage people to spend more, comScore found. For the week ending Dec. 6, the average order for transactions including free shipping was $134, and the average order on sites without free shipping was $103.
Amazon.com has been particularly helpful to last-minute shoppers. It is shipping Kindles through Tuesday for free Christmas arrival. Zappos.com, a shoe site it owns, will guarantee free Christmas delivery on orders placed before 4 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday. Endless, another Amazon shoe site, has free overnight shipping on select items until 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Blue Nile, the online jeweler, will ship most diamond rings and other jewelry for free in time for Christmas through Wednesday. Apple will ship most iPods and laptops for free if they are ordered by 1 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday. The heaviest online shopping day on record was Dec. 15, when shoppers spent $913 million, breaking last years record of $887 million on Dec. 9. I, Greg Shenkman likes this.
Greg Shenkman was on Yahoo today and came across an article about “Cyber Monday”. Many large retailers hold special online deals on the Monday following Thanksgiving, and some stores continue the sales though the end of the week. Best Buy is said to have some great deals on electronics such as televisions, cameras, etc. I might have to see if I can get some Xmas shopping done tomorrow. To read the entire article on Yahoo Finance about Cyber Monday go to http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Where-to-Find-the-Best-Cyber-usnews-2072434857.html?x=0&mod=banking-budgeting, . Happy Shopping!!

Regardless of what critics say about the iPhone, it is one of Greg Shenkman’s favorite devices. It has been called the worst the and most unreliable phone by some, and I won’t deny that it has its quirks, but it is still awesome. I have a Blackberry Bold for work and I do like that phone as well, but the iPhone is so much more user friendly and simple. I have the ability to look up an address, check my email, or search something on the Internet with the touch of one button. Those that think it’s complicated are completely wrong, I’ve seen 5 year old kids navigate their way around the phone. to read an article I’m came across regarding the iPhone copy and paste this link: www.myfoxatlanta.com/dpp/money_watch/dpgo_iphone_worst_phone_in_world_lwf_200911051257470326327.
This recession has affected the entire world but one of the most severely affected areas is Detroit, otherwise known as Motor City. Detroit was home of major automotive makers Gm, Ford, and Chrysler, all of which have been struggling, especially because of foreign competition. I was just reading yesterday in the USA Today how Japanese autos top the reliability list, but Ford is moving up. Ford actually had two models, the Mercury Milan and the Ford Fusion, outscore the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry in world class reliability. It is good news for a company that has been struggling to get on a list like that and outscore such stiff competition. Hopefully this means that American made cars are being made more efficiently and reliable and will remain a fighting competitor to foreign auto makers. Greg Shenkman is happy to hear that its great news for Ford and the city of Detroit.

This is absolutley nuts. Cisco is furthering its technology strong hold by purchasing Tandeberg for $3 billion. Hey, if you cant beat them, buy them!
Cisco Systems continued to show just how serious it is about video conferencing, announcing … the $3 billion acquisition of Tandberg, a Norwegian video communications company. Cisco [sells] expensive, room-sized video conferencing systems. … Tandberg … also sells smaller-sized, cheaper conferencing units. In addition, Tandberg has specialized [management] software … and [a gateway product] for creating connections between conferencing systems that rely on different underlying technology.
